The boiler scrappage scheme is the UK’s first-ever boiler trade-in initiative, to incentivise homeowners to upgrade the energy performance of their heating and hot water systems. The scheme uses a £400 cash incentive towards the supply and fitting of a boiler – effectively carrying out a ‘boiler trade-in’ with their old boiler.

The boiler scrappage scheme is targeting ‘g’ rated boilers – the worst performing boilers. If you’re unsure as to whether your boiler is ‘g’ rated, a good quick test for gas boilers is to see if it has a permanent pilot light. If it does have, then it is very likely to be a ‘g’ rated boiler.

Do I qualify for the scheme?

The scheme covers England only, so all of our areas – Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and North London are eligible for the boiler scrappage scheme.

The boiler scrappage scheme isn’t open to housing associations Registered Social Landlords (though they may be able to qualify for support under the Decent Homes Programme

If you are under the age of 60, the boiler needs to be in working order and be the main source of heat for the home.

People older than 60 can apply for the scheme – whether the boiler works or not. It still must be the main boiler used to heat the home.

How long have I got?

Contact us quickly! The Energy Savings Trust (EST) warned that the Boiler Scrappage Scheme’s total £50m of funding could run out in March – because of the high popularity of the scheme since its launch in January.

How do I register

If you think that your home has a G-rated or worse boiler and wish to register for the scheme to receive a £400 cashback voucher towards the cost of upgrading to an A-rated boiler then firstly arrange for your nominated installer to visit and provide you with a quote.
