Hints & Tips

If you smell gas
If you smell gas, call National Grid free on 0800 111 999 – do this immediately – be safe. Ring us by all means, but ring them first – think safe. See here for more details.

A boiler needs to suit your requirements
We strongly suggest that you seek the expert guidance from a local accredited installer like the Big City Gas company. We will be able to suggest the most appropriate type of boiler and advise of any upgrades to the system that may be required. There are ready-reckoners out there on the internet; by all means use them to work out what gas boiler suits your needs…. but listen to an experienced expert too – it’s their job.

Get the most from your combi boiler
To get the best performance from your combination boiler, you will need to understand the basic principles involved. A combination boiler works on demand. Water drawn from the main cold water supply to the tap is heated as it passes through the boiler. The temperature of hot water is dependent on the boiler’s maximum output (they vary and are usually shown in kW or BTU per hour), Water flow rate (how quickly water passes through the boiler determines how quickly the water heats) and incoming water temperature (the actual temperature obtained will depend on the initial mains water temperature)
